Chasing my dreams one shot at a time
Hello from Arizona! I would like to update all of you on my recent move and upcoming plans.
After finally grabbing that coveted diploma in Lincoln, I made a brief visit to Boise for the holidays and then drove south on December 30th. I am now happily settled in Mesa, Arizona. I am living in a house with 3 other girls, one of whom is a former Idaho Vandal golfer. After shopping around a bit, I decided to make Alta Mesa Golf Club my home course. It is only 10 minutes away in northwest Mesa, has large practice facilities, fast greens, and the membership boasts a lot of great players. Two such players are Charlie Beljan (winner on the PGA Tour last year) and Mina Harigae (44th on the 2012 LPGA money list). There is a money game every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday afternoon where often 12+ players will show up with handicaps at or near scratch. This will be the perfect way to sharpen my game in a competitive setting. Thus far, my typical day looks like: hit the gym at 6:30 am (using a strength program from Nebraska & yoga classes), head to the course to practice for 2-2/12 hours, eat lunch, play 9 or 18, then practice again until the sun sets (5:30 this time of year). Now for the good stuff: my tournament schedule. My (tentative) schedule can be found here. Note my first event will be on the Cactus Tour, Jan 28-30 at Club West GC in south Phoenix. I will be playing a Cactus Tour event every other week. Also note the two Symetra Tour events, the first here in Mesa @ Longbow GC on Feb 22-24 and the second in Winter Haven, FL on March 22-24. Because I opted out of Stage III of Q-school, I am one category below full exemption on the Symetra Tour. The first Symetra event here in Mesa has a limited field (120 players), so I am not positive that I will get to play and the chances are hard to predict. Not knowing is very frustrating, but there is nothing I can do but wait and see. My chances of getting into the second event in FL are much higher because it is a full field (156 players). I will keep everyone posted. I wake up every day grateful for this opportunity and determined to make the most of it. If any of you are in the Phoenix area and would like to come watch an event, then please do! Contact me for any more details.
